Summer is quickly approaching and I’m already looking forward to those longer days of sunshine at the beach where you can’t quite tell if it’s 4pm or 6pm.
Even as an adult I always feel that relaxed “summer vacation” state of mind; those three months of wanderlust and adventure that no other season compares to.
My skin is usually dry, even in the summer, so I moisturize after every shower and sometimes a second time before bed. In past summers I’ve struggled to find a lightweight summer lotion that I really like. While I love a rich, buttery cream during snow season, there’s nothing worse than sweating in your summer clothes and feeling greasy. I’m currently using Vaseline Aloe Lotion since its lightweight yet absorbs easily. I can always tell when I’m not drinking enough water since my lips start to chap, so when that happens I up my intake and throw a Vaseline Lip Tin in my bag. I’ve been using Vaseline (haven’t we all?) for as long as I can remember and it just does it all, from dry elbows to chapped lips and blistered heels from walking all day. I also love a summer spray tan since I’m naturally very pale, so I’ll go to Chocolate Sun in LA a couple times a month.
Whether you’re faux-tanning or real-tanning (with SPF, I hope!) an exfoliator is necessary to get rid of all your old color and dead skin cells. I’ve tried dry brushing lately after reading about it in every magazine and beauty blog, and it works well to keep my skin much more moisturized. I’ve also been using St. Ives Body Scrub, which leaves a subtle scent behind.
For a casual summer day walking around I’ve been living in ballet flats and shorts, paired here with this ruffle top from the new Who What Wear collection that just launched at Target (also in a burnt brown shade here).
