Blue Star

Line & Dot romper, Janessa Leone hat, Chloé flats, YSL bag, Perverse sunglasses

I’m usually not one for doughnuts, but Blue Star on Abbott Kinney has the most creative flavor selection and makes the perfect little afternoon stop while window shopping.

Plus, my friend Valorie (who also shot these photos) informed me that it happened to be National Doughnut Day as we strolled by (is there a “national” everything day now?) so it seemed like a good day if ever to stop in. We chose the “Rose Hibiscus” flavor, grabbed a cold brew coffee and sat outside for a while to people watch. Abbott Kinney has evolved to include of my favorite shops now; everything from Principessa, a small boutique with beachy-bohemian styles to Rag & Bone and Iro. Hourglass Cosmetics just opened as well, which is one of my favorite cosmetics lines. The boulevard resembles nearly a completely different street as it was even five years ago, and continues to change, although I hope some of the original Venice charm will remain.

I wore a breezy pink long sleeved romper with a delicate floral print (that is now on major sale!), scalloped ballet flats for comfortable walking and my new navy straw fedora that I can’t get enough of. I took it with me to Europe and have been wearing it on every travel day (just need to work on my hat packing skills). I love that it’s different from your typical beige or black fedora and the top is a couple inches higher than normal, framing the face nicely. If there’s one new accessory purchase I’d recommend for summer it’s a great hat. This one also breathes easily and is lightweight, which makes me want to wear it on warmer days when I’d usually forego extra weight on my hair.

I’ve worn these scalloped flats on the blog before and they continue to serve as my most comfortable flat shoes. I never end up wearing the shoes that I buy with the intention of breaking in before using, but these were so soft from the get go. The leather wears in around your feet even more after a few wears. Sam Edelman makes a similar style and I also love this ankle-wrap version. Do you have a go-to flat shoe? I’m in need of another pair!

At the bottom of this post find some of my other favorite sleeved rompers of the season. They’re great for any occasion – dress them up with a jacket and block heel or down with a sandal for casual long days.
