July in Los Angeles

Faithfull romper, Rag & Bone sneakers, Illesteva sunglasses, Chloé bag, Sonix iPhone 6 case

In between catching up on work after arriving home from Europe and gearing up for another quick trip next week, I’ve been a little lazy on dressing.

By lazy, I mean one-piece outfits plus white sneakers. Comfortable, casual.

I’ve never been a jeans, t-shirt and sneakers every day girl. I’m always amused when I look back at my early posts on this blog. While my style at heart hasn’t changed – I’d still describe it as feminine, put-together yet laid-back sophisticated – my approach to dressing has definitely evolved. I used to rarely leave the house in flats (unless I was going to the gym) and I used to make sure I had a perfectly coordinated bag-shoe situation going. I’d always curl my hair and do my makeup fully (it was either bare faced or completely done, no in-between), and I loved the routine of it all and feeling prepared for anything the day threw at me.  I still value that sense of confidence, but I’m so much more easy going about how I put myself together most days and I more often value the “less is more” attitude.

Instead of either dressing 0 or 100, I’ve grown to love that 50% (not in effort, but as a sense of relaxed style). I wear less makeup everyday (taking photos for the blog excluded); I often swap my wedge sandals for sneakers to be more comfortable. I usually pile on some jewelry before walking out the door but end up taking off the last piece I put on because it feels like a little “too much.”

I also pay more attention to proportion than I used to. During my college I remember how the sort of unspoken goal was to emphasize everything at once – tighter, taller, tanner, blonder, more more more! Everyone wanted to stand out in a sea of girls (I did go to USC, the capital of California girls, but still). Now that those years are behind me and I’ve grown more comfortable with myself and my style, I find myself caring a little less about those things – like looking taller ALL the time (I realize I’m not fooling my friends anymore) I prefer to only emphasize one thing at a time- whether that’s covering my top but showing off my legs, or vice versa. I still love to fully dress up just as much as before – but not for every single day.

While my love for style, playfulness with fashion, colors and the fun of it all is the reason why I started this blog in the first place (and love it so dearly), I also like seeing how it has evolved with me to better represent my life and style now. If you’ve been following along for a while, I’d love to hear your opinion – has this happened to you too? How has your style evolved?

Anyway, not sure where I was going with this, but back to this printed romper: what I find myself in day-to-day during hot afternoons. We’re in the middle of another 80 degree heat wave and lightweight cotton or linen is the only way to go. I brought this printed romper to Italy with me and wore it several times with sandals and fedoras, so throwing it on again this week brought back happy memories of June and a little nostalgia (it went by too fast). Faithfull has so many great travel-friendly pieces that roll up into practically nothing, crease out with a little blast of a steamer (I packed one) and are lightweight and breathable.  I also wore this bright dress in Ibiza.

How cute is this red lips phone case? My boyfriend makes fun of me for always having a different phone case on my phone as if it’s an extension of my outfit, and these fun lips are on it this week (whatever, I’m the one looking at it all day, I like variety)! Sonix has such cute cases and now sunglasses.

Until it cools off I’ll be wearing printed rompers, shorts and dresses. Find more of my favorites below!
