One of my biggest ongoing wardrobe dilemmas is that I tend to spend my day in a more casual look then change into something dressier for dinners or evening events. This leads to lots of stuffed bags, schlepping, and rushing. Example: if I’m packing for a long weekend, I can think of eight separate occasions I might need eight outfits, when in reality one piece could’ve worked for the whole day by changing my shoes from flats to heels and swapping my bag from satchel to clutch.

When I found this paisley day to night dress I knew I should pay more attention to versatile pieces. A long sleeved dress for fall and winter is the perfect one-step piece. It works for literally anything: office wear, a breakfast meeting, casual afternoons with friends, and dressed up at night.

A love/hate quality to me about Los Angeles is that the population tends to perpetually undress… to a fault. If you’re not at an office job and you go anywhere before 5 pm fully dressed (which to me means a dress with shoes excluding sneakers or pants and a blouse – basically looking like you spent more than 5 minutes getting ready) it’s considered “dressed up” because the norm is activewear. Over lunch with my friend Sheridan last week, we were laughing that most women were in their workout pants and sneakers and gave us funny “where are you headed in that?” looks when we passed. Granted, I wear my workout clothes ALL DAY plenty of the time too, but I don’t think you should need a place go to just to put yourself together. It’s a reason I love visiting New York or San Francisco.

With the day-to-night vibe in mind, I just ordered this floral wrap dress from Revolve to wear with a big hat and booties and throw a pair of platforms in my trunk to change into at night. I found many more long-sleeved dresses and shoes below – let me know your favorite!
