Oriental Florals

 Photography by Sazan Barzani

Top: Zimmermann

Shorts: Topshop

Shoes: Schutz

Sunglasses: c/o Bebe

Bag: Prada

I bought these pretty oriental floral printed shorts weeks ago and hadn’t worn them yet because I kept waiting to find a gold or blue-grey top to match the delicate detailing (and of course, when you’re shopping for something specific, you can never find it!) I finally pulled them out of my closet determined to make it work and decided on mismatching another floral print top.

Proportion is key here: the shorts are definitely pretty short and nicely form fitting, so I balanced them out with a looser blouse to cover my shoulders and arms. As I’ve gotten older and my style has evolved, I’ve learned to pay more attention to this “rule” – of course, rules are made to be broken, but 90% of the time I prefer to cover either my top or bottom half and make sure there’s a balance between tighter and looser fabrics. In LA, the perfect weather makes it possible to wear virtually anything, but I love the sophistication of this “proportion rule” and I always try to incorporate an element of it into my outfit. In a sea of girls wearing little shorts and tank tops year-round, it almost makes it easier to stand out!

This top was pricy but such a great buy – the silk is luxe and high quality, the fit is perfect and it can be paired with anything from a dressy pencil skirt to ripped jeans. I’m obsessed with the bow in the back – it’s so elegant and sweet. I’m now hooked on Zimmermann and can’t wait to add some other pieces to my closet.

As you can tell from these photos (75 degrees!) LA has moved full force into springtime and I’m taking every opportunity to break out heeled sandals, shorts and brighter colors. Love it!
