Desert at Dusk

In the spirit of festival season I’m all about bright colors, retro prints and a whimsical aesthetic.

This bright yellow, wide-legged jumpsuit is not for the faint of heart. Do you ever dress in parallel to how you’re feeling? There are days I’d rather blend into a crowd wearing jeans and a t-shirt, but this jumpsuit is for the day I want to make an entrance.  It fulfills my trick for the illusion of an extra 4 inches: a high neck combined with high waisted pant line, all one print throughout (as opposed to a separate color top and bottom, which break up the height). Paired with platform shoes, a jumpsuit instantly elongates the frame. I’m just over 5’6, but I feel 6 feet tall wearing this.

These tassel earrings bring out the green on the jumpsuit and pull it all together. They come in a handful of other colors and are so lightweight, you will forget they’re on! I refuse to wear heavy earrings; they’re painful after an hour and I don’t think it’s flattering when the earring pulls your ear lobe down, making it look larger. These are under $50 and make a beautiful gift.

I found some fun, printed jumpsuits currently out: this sweet lemonade print is begging to be packed on a European vacation. This black jumpsuit with bright florals is perfect for a night out; the wide legs are chic with heeled sandals. If you’re a fan of one-shoulder pieces, this chambray number is casual and flattering, and this bright, fitted-leg jumpsuit is under $70.

Looking at these photos is making me realize I should wear braids more often. They were surprisingly easy to create; I used my favorite texture spray to give my hair some hold (I can’t live without this stuff) and braided a small section. After realizing even the tiniest hair elastic kind of ruined the effect of the braid (I wanted it to subtly blend into my other curls) I was determined to make the end stay put without a band. I sprayed a LOT of medium-hold hair spray onto the end of the tail and lightly rubbed it together with my fingers, then repeated, until it stayed put. It lasted all day long. Try it at home! Just be gentle when brushing the braids out, as tangled pieces can break easily.

As I mentioned in my last post, I can’t get enough of round sunglasses, now that I’ve finally found a few pairs that are so flattering. These D’Blanc sunnies are lightweight and make me feel like an ethereal 70’s flower child.

Golden hour over Beachwood Canyon was the perfect backdrop to capture a dusty, sunset feeling. If you get a chance, drive up towards the Hollywood sign and watch the sunset at one of the gorgeous overlooks.
